Primary Cause of Bad Breath

At least 90-95% of all bad breath, also known as halitosis, is caused by certain bacteria, or germs, living in your mouth. The specific type of bacteria that causes bad breath and periodontal disease (gum and bone disease) are called Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria. They reside in and on all oral surfaces including the teeth, the tongue (mostly the back 1/3 of the tongue) and in between the teeth.

These bacteria have receptors on their surface that attract protein particles (amino acids) that naturally exist in your saliva and from foods as well, and release sulfur gases as by-products. The specific amino acids which break down to cause the odor include cysteine, double cysteine, and methionine The primary constituents of the halitosis gases are sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide and others. These gases are collectively referred to as volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) in the scientific literature. When exhaled, the VSCs are perceived as bad breath.

Misconceptions About Bad Breath

  • "Bad breath comes from the stomach." Contrary to popular belief, bad breath does not come from the stomach. There is a physical closure between the esophagus and the stomach. Nothing is transmitted through this closure from the stomach to the mouth unless you burp or regurgitate.
  • "TriOral may be nice for other people, but I don't have bad breath." The truth is, everyone has bad breath at some point every day. We all wake up in the morning with the dreaded Morning Breath, and we all experience stale afternoon or evening breath. Bad breath is a human trait we all share. No one is immune.
  • "I can smell my own breath so I can tell if I have bad breath or not." Many people think that you can breathe into your hand and smell your own breath. The truth is, you can't really smell your own breath. The best way to test for bad breath is to breathe on someone and have them give you direct feedback. This is also the best way to test the effectiveness of the TriOral System. Give it a try - you'll be amazed.
  • My friends and family would tell me if I had a bad breath problem. Bad breath is very embarrassing to talk about. It is very personal. It's so personal that nobody wants to talk about it. Most people will not even tell their spouses and best friends that they have a bad breath problem. Therefore most people never know when they offend someone.

    Dry Mouth and Bad Breath

A dry mouth (xerostomia) can actually cause or worsen bad breath. Therefore, certain activities that cause a dry mouth can create very embarrassing bad breath situations. People involved in such activities can include sales people, speakers, singers, actors as well as people who are exercising and sleeping. The TriOral BreathCure Rinse System can prevent the bad breath associated with these activities.

    Other Causes of Bad Breath

Less than 10% of bad breath is caused by systemic infections or diseases including intestinal disorders, bacterial sinus infections, kidney and liver disease, leukemia and others.

    Chronic Halitosis

Chronic halitosis is a condition that creates constant, never-ending, severe bad breath state. People who suffer from chronic halitosis deal with the business, personal and social consequences every day. It affects every relationship and every aspect of someone's life. It is a very debilitating disease and has been known to result in suicide. TriOral BreathCure Rinse System has been a life-altering gift for many people who suffer from chronic halitosis.

Why is zinc ion technology important?

    Historical bad breath remedies include:

  • antibacterial agents which kill bacteria but do not effectively eliminate existing odors.
  • oxidizing agents which help eliminate existing odors in the mouth at the time of rinsing.
  • zinc-containing products that do not provide available, free zinc ions.

None of these remedies prevent bad breath long-term. Zinc ion technology provides a long-term solution, helping to prevent bad breath for an extended period of time.

    Zinc ion technology basics

Zinc ion technology is the foundation of all TriOral formulations.

Zinc ion technology attacks bad breath at its true source - the bacteria or germs in your mouth. Bad breath is caused by certain bacteria that bind protein particles on their surface, eat or metabolize the protein particles and produce sulfur gases. It is these volatile sulfur gases that we perceive as bad breath.

Free, available zinc ions bind to these protein receptors on the surface of the bacteria, prohibiting the protein particles from binding. This prevents the metabolism of the protein particles and the production of new volatile sulfur gases. The zinc ions act like a barrier around the bacteria, preventing the production of new bad breath gases.

    Oxidation/zinc ion technology

TriOral BreathCure Rinse System is the only TriOral product that contains the oxidation/zinc ion technology. It works in three ways:

  • The oxidizing agent, sodium chlorite (commonly known as stabilized chlorine dioxide), helps eliminate existing odors at the time of rinsing.
  • The free, available zinc ions, which are produced when zinc chloride is mixed just prior to use with an oxidizing agent, helps prevent new bad breath odors from forming.
  • The oxidizing agent and free zinc ions work together, synergistically, to increase the natural oxidative state of the mouth over time. As the oxidative state increases in the mouth, the zinc in the other TriOral products ionize more readily.

When you rinse with TriOral BreathCure regularly twice a day, the resulting, higher oxidative state in the mouth allows a greater availability of free zinc ions when you use the TriOral toothpaste and gum at other times throughout the day. This process enhances the bad breath prevention effect of the zinc ion technology.

Therefore, the more consistently the TriOral Rinse is used, and the more the gum and toothpaste are used throughout the day, the more effective the zinc ion technology will be.

If you put zinc ion in the mouth, it binds with other floating materials to become inactivated and not available. In the TriOral BreathCure System, the combination of zinc chloride with sodium chlorite creates an immediate environment that forms and preserves for a short time, free, available zinc ion. When you brush your teeth first, you are putting additional zinc in the mouth, which ionizes in the presence of the mouthrinse.

As you use this system, the entire oral cavity environment begins to change, so that it becomes more oxidative. This higher oxidative state is maintained as you continue to use TriOral regularly as directed.

TriOral BreathCure is a unique, revolutionary, patent-pending system that has been scientifically tested and proven to help eliminate and prevent bad breath 24-hours a day when used regularly, twice a day.

TriOral's invigorating mint flavor leaves your mouth feeling clean and refreshed all day. Feel the difference.

The innovative, technology in the TriOral System requires that the two active ingredients be mixed together just prior to rinsing. Therefore, the ingredients must be kept in separate containers.

The TriOral System is triple-action. It works in three ways to provide unique, long-term breath protection:

  • Helps eliminate existing odors
  • Helps prevent new odors from forming
  • Creates an environment unfavorable for the bacteria that cause bad breath.

You can feel the TriOral System working immediately. The rest of the day you will notice that your mouth feels different. It feels clean and fresh, and within about a week, you should wake up in the morning without that "furry" feeling on your teeth. They feel smooth and clean. You can truly feel the difference, and that's how you know the TriOral System is working.

TriOral BreathCure System is 100% alcohol-free and completely safe for ages 6 and older.
